Gates Millenium Scholarship Information!

We had a chance to interview Steven Abbott from AIGC Scholars and The Gates Millennium Scholarship Program - a partner program of College Horizons.  Listen to this brief sound recording for more information about this amazing opportunity for Native students!  As a participant of College Horizons, we help prepare students to apply for this and many other scholarships.  We highly encourage our eligible alumni to apply this fall.

For more information on program eligibility, deadlines and how to apply, please visit the AIGCS and GMS websites!  Please write to Steven with any questions at his email address: steven@aigcs.org

Hello, My first year with College Horizons I went to Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington. My Second year I went to Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin. My experience with these colleges prepared me for the necessary steps for college and I created life long friends within the program. I am a Gates Millennium Scholar 2010 recipient. I achieved so much in the past year because of the assistance and support of College Horizons. I wanted to say Thank you.
Mercedes Seschillie, CH Alum - Whitman ‘09 and Lawrence ‘10

Holly Miowak Stebing (Inupiaq), two-time College Horizons faculty and now full-time doctoral student at Yale - REPRESENTS.  Way to go, Holly!

Thank you so much CH!! I am beginning to apply for more colleges than I ever thought was possible. If it weren’t for you, I would be stuck at my high school preparing to attend the community college. I could not have done it without you. College Pride! Native Pride!

This is very first shout-out from recent CH alumna Nalani Wakinekona.  Thanks for letting us know how you feel about our program Nalani and good luck with the rest of the admissions process - we know you’ll do great!  Don’t forget about us after you go to school - Graduate Horizons will be waiting for you! :)

Submit your own shout-out via our contact us page on our new website!  Or submit text, photos, video, quotes, questions, etc. directly to our CH Tumblr!

We don’t just want our kids to pass tests, we want them to become caring and responsible adults.
Dr. Aluli Meyer, Native Hawaiian
As a Native American youth you need to be successful in both worlds. That means you need to be successful in keeping our culture alive and you also need to be successful in the Western way of living. That means going to college and coming back to help.

People around the world have said this education is a difficult task.
You have accomplished it, and you have made an achievement.
Now, take this new knowledge and do good things for society.
